Quilting has long been a cherished craft, blending creativity with tradition. For those who want to complete their quilt fast with a beautiful, precise overall quilting but aren’t ready to commit to a semi-custom or fully custom quilting price and time, edge-to-edge quilting offers a perfect solution. This approach allows quilters to use a repeating design stitched evenly across the entire quilt benefiting from pre-designed elements. If you’re interested in a beautiful, even texture that enhances the quilt top without drawing attention away from the piecing, edge-to-edge quilting might be a great choice.
What Is Edge-to-Edge Quilting?
Edge-to-edge quilting offers a consistent, elegant finish across your entire quilt top. Using precise computerized designs, it creates a balanced design that compliments any style - from traditional to modern - while keeping costs lower than semi-custom or custom quilting.
Benefits of Edge-to-Edge
Choosing edge-to-edge quilting comes with several advantages:
Time Efficiency | Since the overall design is already created, the quilting process moves faster than a semi-custom or custom project. This means you get your quilt sooner without sacrificing personalization.
Cost-Effective | Fully and semi-custom quilts often require more tailored design work which can increase the time for quilting, which is why that are more expensive. Edge-to-edge quilting reduces the cost by using existing patterns over the entire quilt top.
Creative Control | You still get to influence the quilt’s look by selecting the overall pattern of your choice. Little Apple Quilts has a lot of patterns, to choose from, or you can choose a new one at an addition cost.
Quality Assurance | Because the patterns are tested and refined, edge-to-edge quilts have consistent quality and craftsmanship.
Tips for Working with an Edge-to-Edge Quilter
To get the most from your edge-to-edge quilting experience, keep these tips in mind:
Communicate Clearly | Share your preferences and ideas openly. Provide examples or inspiration photos if possible.
Set Realistic Expectations | Understand the limits of quilting and timelines before placing your order.

Preparing Your Quilt for Longarm Quilting
Before sending your quilt to a longarm quilter, proper preparation ensures smooth processing:
Complete the Quilt Top | Make sure your quilt top is fully pieced and pressed.
Choose the Right Batting | Select batting that suits your project’s warmth and texture needs. At Little Apple Quilts, I am able to provide the backing you would like to use at an additional cost.
Prepare the Backing Fabric | The backing should be slightly larger (8"+ longer and 8"+ wider) than the quilt top to allow for tension on the frame. You can piece it together or have Little Apple Quilts piece your backing. If you are not using wide back fabric or the fabric is not wide or long enough, I will need to piece the fabric it will be a $10 charge per seam. Little Apple Quilts has backing that may be provided at an additional cost.
Secure Loose Threads | Trim any loose threads to prevent tangling during quilting. At Little Apple Quilts, I am able to provide trimming services at a fixed fee of $15 per quilt top.
Provide Clear Instructions | Include notes about preferred quilting patterns, thread colors, and any special requests.
Proper preparation helps avoid delays and ensures the quilter can focus on stitching your design perfectly. If you would like Little Apple Quilts to do any of the additional items above, please let me know and I will have everything ready for when I receive your quilt top.
